Yes, you read that right…I’ve got a poem in my pocket.
So, deciding to play along, I visited poemhunter.com to find the perfect poem to bring along on all my adventures today. I read through a number of Robert Frost‘s poems, but while I enjoyed many of them, I didn’t like the way any of them fit in my wallet. I did a random search for poems on writing, since I’m an author, but again didn’t find anything that really struck me as worthy to carry around with me.
As I am also a fan of horror stories, and Edgar Allan Poe is one of my favorite classic authors, I scrolled through several of his poems. I re-read The Raven (always a favorite!), but it’s kind of long to be carrying around. So I picked through several more, and finally settled on one. As I am going to stuff it in my wallet, it made perfect sense:
Epigram for Wall Street
I’ll tell you a plan for gaining wealth,
Better than banking, trade or leases —
Take a bank note and fold it up,
And then you will find your money in creases!
This wonderful plan, without danger or loss,
Keeps your cash in your hands, where nothing can trouble it;
And every time that you fold it across,
‘Tis as plain as the light of the day that you double it!
